Former special assistant to the Governor of Akwa Ibom State,Mfon Udeme,has survived an assassination attempt.
Unidentified gunmen suspected to be hired assassins reportedly shot the former special assistant on electoral matters to Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom state, Mfon Udeme, on Thursday, October 11,2018.
According to newsmen, the former aide, who resigned from his post and defected to the All Progressive Congress (APC) in September 2018, was shot in the leg by the gunmen, who were said to be nine in number.
The suspected assassins invaded his residence at about 1:15am on Thursday, October 11 and shot him on the right thigh.
Udeme said he suspected people were after his life, as the hoodlums refused to take anything from him as they did not show interest in the money but rather shot at him.
Udeme was reportedly shot on the right thigh after being dragged to a corner in the premises but,survived.
In respect to the seriousness of the nature of the allegation made, the governor has directed the state director of the Department of State Services (DSS) to probe the incident and report its findings.
