Kevin Fret, a gay rapper and musician was shot eight times while riding a motorbike on the streets of Puerto Rico and was hit in the head and hip.
The rapper who is aged 24, outspoken and a rising Puerto Rican artist was killed in the capital San Juan.
Fret before his death has also responded strongly to homophobic threats in the lyrics of a rival musician, making some of his supporters wonder whether his murder was motivated by hate.
Fret’s manager, Eduardo Rodriguez, describes the rapper as an artistic soul who had a passion for music.
The police says his death brings the number of murder cases in Puerto Rico this year to 22 and the rise in street crimes in recent weeks is described as crisis of violence which investigation is currently going on.
