The electoral body is set to upgrade the smart card readers for 2019 election which will be begin next week. This exercise will include systematic hardware and software of all smart card readers nation wide.
The upgrade is aimed at a continuous security and preservation of electoral tools from unauthorized and mischievous access. INEC has assured the public that the commission has anticipated and taken proactive measures to secure the electoral materials.
Several security features and secret codes are contained in the smart card readers which will enable them to read only PVCs duly issued by the commission.
INEC Director of Voter Education and Publicity, Osaze-Uzzi noted that the advertisement shows photographs of blank cards which have not been personalized not containing any details.
Also stating that INEC will engage the government, security agencies, as well as promoters of this platform so as to get to the root taking necessary actions to take down the advertisement immediately.
Osaze-uzzi stated that this enhancement has been done successfully in Osun and Ekiti in preparatory to the upcoming governorship election in the two states.
INEC also assures the public that inmates in various prisons across Nigeria can participate in the voting of 2019 election. Prisoners have the right to exercise franchise during elections across the country.
