Chief John Oyegun said President Buhari is focused on delivering on his promises .The APC chairman said he would make his 2019 ambition public. He told the PDP to forget about reclaiming power. The chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief John Odigie-Oyegun has said that President Muhammadu Buhari will make his decision on the 2019 elections public. The ruling party chairman spoke on the heels of a comment credited to Aisha Alhassan that President Buhari had said he would not seek re-election. The minister of women affairs has been at the end of criticism following her endorsement of Atiku Abubakar for 2019 presidency. Reports that Oyegun spoke in Benin on Thursday, September 7 where he said the president was still focused on his administration and that if he plans to seek re-election, he would make it public. He said one of the greatest achievements of the Buhari-led administration was bringing Nigeria out of recession as recently confirmed by the National Bureau of Statistics and that more progress would be made before the 2019 presidential election. He said: “The decision, whether our President will run for a second term, is a decision only President Buhari can make, and he will make it at the proper time. For now, he still has nearly two years of painful, strenuous reconstruction of the Nigerian economy and all the other promises he made both in anti-corruption and on security is still serious work in progress. “At the proper time, he will decide, and at the proper time, the APC will decide and the public will know.”
On the plan by the Peoples Democratic Party to seize power in 2019, the APC chairman said: “They are allowed to continue on their dreams, they are just coming out from intensive care unit. So they need a lot of nurturing, so this is good for their ego.” Meanwhile, Alhassan said that she does not think President Buhari is a naïve person. According to a report, Alhassan said this while speaking with state house correspondents after visiting Aso Rock with the hope to meet with Abba Kyari, chief of staff to the president.It was gathered that She said she had not seen the president since she made the comment, which made some supporters of the APC to call for her sack. “I have not seen the president but I don’t think he is a naive person,” she said.
