The Peoples Democratic Party in Edo State has vowed to resist attempts by any political party to manipulate the September 10 governorship election in the state.
The state party Chairman , Chief Dan Orbih, stated this at a rally for its governorship candidate, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area of the state.
Orbih, who said the party would ensure that the decision of the electorate was respected at the poll, advised any individual or groups planning to rig the election to have a rethink.
The party chief said, “Let me assure you that we have put in place measures to check them on September 10. We are prepared to withstand anybody who wants to thwart the will of Edo people.”
He also urged other political parties, especially the All Progressives Congress, to seek legitimate votes, rather than relying on unlawful means to win the election.
Meanwhile, a socio-political group, Freedom Youths Movement, has faulted the donation of N120m to market women by Governor Adams Oshiomhole.
The governor, who stated this during a rally at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, last week, said the gesture was part of the administration’s efforts to empower women in the state.
But the FYM, in a statement by its President, Osamende Iyamu, described the governor’s action as a “Greek gift.” Punch
