The Niger State Police Command said on Tuesday that it had arrested three cattle rustlers terrorising residents of the Bangi Local Government Area.
It was gathered that the command’s Special Anti-Cattle Rustling Squad, in a joint operation with the Nigerian Army, arrested the suspects, Haruna Mohammed, Tukur Hassan, and Adamu Guru, in the Bangi area, following a tip-off.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, Bala Elkana, confirmed the arrest, saying operatives recovered one locally-made pistol and 27 empty AK-47 rifles from the suspects.
Similarly, a team of policemen also arrested one Sani Lanni of Bunza, Kebbi State, for stealing a motorcycle belonging to one Sabitu Abdullameed, from the Rijua LGA of the state.
The operatives recovered the motorcycle, valued at N150,000.
Also, while acting on a tip-off, a team of operatives on patrol arrested one Suleiman Abubakar of Dazangbodo, in the Katcha council for stealing a motorcycle belonging to one Abubakar Gbapo of the council.
The PPRO said the exhibit was recovered from the suspect during an encounter with the operatives in that area.
Elkana said, “We will not relent in the fight against criminality in the state until perpetrators are brought to book. Niger State is a danger zone for bandits and we will not allow them to operate here. We have taken it upon ourselves to ensure that lives and property of people are protected.”
He appealed to members of the public to always report any suspicious person to the nearest police station in their areas, adding that it would help police to carry out their duties in a dignified manner.
