Thugs attacked the Taraba State Commissioner of Police, David Akinremi yesterday breaking his head in the process.
A representative of the State Police Command, ASP David Misal confirming the incident to reporters in Jalingo, said their boss was ambushed by these thugs while trying to restore order in Tudun Wada and Gadan Boboji following the comeback of unrest in the areas.
The ASP said some enraged youths armed with dangerous weapons like cutlasses, axes and other objects, started disturbing the peace of residents around Tudun Wada and Gadan Boboji areas of Jalingo town.
His men were deployed there and normalcy returned. However, the following morning there were reports that the boys had come out again in huge numbers, brandishing these weapons and the situation was so bad that the Commissioner of Police decided to go there himself with other officers.
While addressing the youths to calm them down, he was stoned in the head and immediately rushed to the hospital where he was treated of his injuries.
He has been discharged and is taking his rest at home and a serious operation is going on, to calm the situation and prevent further breakdown of law and order in the area.
The representative of the State Commissioner of Police, who condemned the attack on Akinremi, reported that some arrests has been made in connection with the incident, also stating that the perpetrators will be made to face the full verdict of the law.
