There has been a deployment of soldiers to Rafinkada village in Wukari Local Government area of Taraba state as five persons were killed and several houses burnt in fresh crisis between the Tivs and Jukuns.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, Mr. Daniel Adidas the caretaker committee chairman of the council confirmed the incident in a telephone interview with reporters in Jalingo.
In reports provided by the News Agency of Nigeria, Mr Adi alleged that gunmen in Army camouflage attacked the village shooting and setting several houses ablaze. He however confirmed that the deployment of soldiers to the area has brought the situation under control.
The News Agency of Nigeria also reported that DSP David Missal, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the state police command confirmed the incident but said only one person was killed.
“The report I have indicated that armed militia youth crossed from Benue State and attacked a community in Wukari LGA and one person was killed and some houses burnt”, the PPRO said.
The crisis between the two ethnic groups have lingered on since March 2019 and has claimed hundreds of lives and property worth billions of naira.
