Japanese government has granted permits to catch 227 minke, Bryde’s and Sei whales this year in Japanese waters.

Japan had been on hiatus since 1986 but have resumed whaling for “research purposes”.

Having withdrawn from the International Whaling Commission, they are no longer bound by its rules.

While there is a permanent ban on Whaling, Japan has continued on their stance that it is possible to hunt whales in a sustainable way.
