On the 10th of March, the President, Muhammadu Buhari requested the confirmation of Ahmad Shaba Halilu’s nomination by the Senate, as the substantive Director General of the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA). This was contained in a statement issued by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu in Abuja.
This request was contained in a letter to President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, in which President Buhari stated that he was acting in line with Section 14 (1) (2) of the NASRDA Act 2010.
The nominee, Dr Halilu, was the acting Director General of the agency, NASRDA, after being the Director in charge of Strategic Space Applications in the same organisation from 2009 to 2019.
He has also participated in various workshops and conferences on Global Climate Change, Environmental Pollution and Food Security; Future Earth Observation Satellite Programmes and Geospatial Information Management; and Geospatial Technologies for Economic Diversification among others.
Halilu previously worked at the National Population Commission, Federal University of Technology, Minna and the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA.
