The Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr. Isa Pantami, continues to make the news following videos that surfaced online weeks ago, of the Minister showing support to terror groups like Taliban and Al-Qaeda years back.
He, Pantami, has since cleared the air by admitting the authenticity of the videos and also stating that his views on such matters have long been altered.
Amidst public outrage requesting the resignation or dismissal of the minister, as the minister’s renunciation remains insufficient, the presidency and major political bodies have continued to show support to the Minister.
Presently, the Minister of Communications, has raised the alarm over evil plans to release some supposedly doctored videos against him, aimed at maligning him.
According to Pantami, the said videos have been planned to be released against him, so as to show him in an alleged compromising condition.
This development was made known through a statement by the Minister’s spokesperson, Uwa Suleiman, where it was revealed that he will not sit idly to see his hard-earned reputation as an Islamic scholar destroyed.
The statement reads:
“We are in receipt of credible intelligence that the same forces who have been championing a well-coordinated and richly funded campaign against the Honourable Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, are now unto the next stage of their diabolic project.
“This time around, the forces of evil are shopping for willing partners as well as their usual avenues, to release doctored videos purporting to show the Honourable Minister in an alleged compromising condition, as a way of creating injury on his image.
“We are least surprised by this recent move which is a clear intensification of their desperation, having failed in their assault on the personality of the Honourable Minister, despite their previous efforts.
“After concocting lies and half-truths linking the Honourable Minister with terrorism, despite his well-documented stance against Boko Haram and similar groups, these adversaries went to the extent of doctoring a document with capacity to endanger national security.
“It was a relief for peace-loving Nigerians that the gimmick also failed to strike that sensitive chord.”
“This notice therefore is to alert the public to the latest ungodly plan and to warn the perpetrators about the consequences of such action.
“The Honourable Minister will not sit idly to see his hard-earned reputation as a respected community leader, Islamic Scholar and public servant being muddled in the mud by paid agents with no adherence to truth and fear of God.”
Some prominent persons have continued to shun the movement to relieve Pantami of his ministerial duties. Some of those people include an Islamic cleric Sheikh Ahmad Gumi.
Sheikah Gumi, during an interview with Roots TV stated that the allegations against the Minister Pantami, were not true and should be discarded. According to Gumi;
“You cannot Islamise the whole world. Jesus Christ came; he could not Christianise the whole world. Nobody can Islamise or Christianise Nigeria,” Gumi began.
“All his actions, one hundred percent, shows he is not a terrorist. Those who are terrorists are after his life. The Minister should continue. His presence there is fighting the terrorist ideology.
“Show me one person he has killed. He has not killed anybody. He has not ordered the killing of anybody. Discard the fake news.
“The man is stabilising a government among a section of youths, which we want them to come and join in nation-building. They should not throw him away. Leave him. He is not a terrorist sympathiser.
“And you people are fighting them. No. You should get more people like Pantami and put them in power. It will stabilise. Don’t remove him. You’ll regret.”
