COURT: Marriage dissolved over wife’s clumsiness and bad cooking

A 15 month old marriage has been dissolved by the Customary Court in Mapo in Ibadan, Oyo State, over complaints of the husband, Stephen Akinseloye, a sales attendant, over his wife’s poor cooking and lack of manners. The estranged couple reside in Elewura-Challenge area, Ibadan.

According to the husband, Akinseloye, his wife Opeyemi, has caused him so much pain by her immaturity.

In his testimony, the husband, said:

”Opeyemi cannot make simple eba. She puts too much salt in the food. I have shown her and corrected her but she has refused to learn.

She is also clumsy. She destroyed my Plasma TV and lies on minor things.

She has also refused to join me in prayers. I am a Catholic, she keeps going to Celestia church.’’

The wife and defendant, opposed the suit by denying some of the allegations levelled against her. She went on to accuse her husband of being a flirt.

The President of the court, Chief Ademola Odunade, delivered judgement in favour of Stephen, stating that Opeyemi solely ruined her relationship by not acquiring the basic requirements for running a home and living in marital bliss.

The reasons cited for the dissolvement of the union was ‘Irreconcilable differences’.

He however granted custody of the only child to the wife, Opeyemi and went ahead to order payment of monthly upkeep by the husband, the sum of N4, 000 (four thousand naira).
