Godwin Obaseki dissolves Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma’s governing council, appoints new acting VC

The Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki has announced the dissolution of the Governing Council of the State owned university, Ambrose Alli University (AAU) Ekpoma, and the appointment of an acting Vice Chancellor.

The new acting VC appointed by the Governor is, Prof Oserhieme Osadolor Benson, a Prof of History from the University of Benin.

Obaseki made this announcement via his Twitter handle.

He captioned the tweet,

#UpdateonAAU: Dissolution of Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma Governing Council and appointment of an Acting Vice Chancellor.

The Governor had recently signed into law a bill that provides him as a visitor to Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma, with the powers to intervene on the lingering crises in the University.

“With the amendment that has been enacted, the visitor now has the full authority, without encumbrance of the law, to now undertake a surgical cleansing of our university,” he said in the statement.

Thanking the Edo state house of Assembly for their support, he said:

“I thank the Edo State House of Assembly for the support they have shown by passing the amendment to the Ambrose Alli University Act of 1999, empowering the visitor to intervene, with the aim of repositioning Ambrose Alli University.”

Obaseki went further to say that they will take all required steps to reposition AAU to become the centre of learning, that the founding fathers meant it to be.

In he words:

“We will take all the required positive steps to reposition AAU to become that centre of learning, which our founding fathers meant it to be.”
