Governor’s In the South-South Region to Launch Security Raiment


The South-South geo-political zone governor’s, yesterday resolved to set up a regional security uniform like Amotekun of the South West to complement the effort of the police and other security agencies in the task of policing the region.

The Governors who met in Asaba, Delta state, also resolved to revive the Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa-Ibom, Cross Rivers, Edo and Delta, (BRACED) Commission.

During the meeting which was attended by all the South-South Governors, except Governor Ben Ayade of Cross Rivers, agreed that the BRACED Commission would handle the formation of the local security raiment.

Briefing reporters after the closed door meeting which lasted for about two hours, Chairman of the South-South Governors’ Forum, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa said they have also resolved to tackle the presidency on the need to remove 13 percent oil derivation for the oil-producing states as enshrined in the constitution before allocations to all the states by the Federal Account Allocation Committee, (FAAC).

The governors according to Okowa, also told President Muhammadu Buhari to immediately constitute the governing board for the Niger Delta Development Commission, (NDDC), noting that the interventionist agency would play a greater role in the regional development of the South-South.
