Sequel to the announcement of the second wave of the Corona virus, as well as the increase in the number of cases in the nation, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has issued new guidelines to be adhered to by churches in order to curtail the spread of the virus.
Regarding the attendance limit, the churches are not to exceed 1/3 of the sitting capacity of the auditorium and other rooms or facilities in the church can be put to use to avoid overcrowding.
On another note, elderly people and people with health challenges are not to attend church activities for the meantime.
The General Secretary of CAN, Joseph Daramola, stated that there should be no form of direct contact of people and he emphasized that hand sanitizers should be made available in all places of worship. He stressed the need to ensure adequate ventilation and cleanliness of the environs. Also as a means to avoid overcrowding, churches are to ensure the use of separate entries for entering and exiting the church auditorium.
Part of his statement:
“Brethren, the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 has announced the emergence of the second wave of the pandemic. Hand washing facilities and hand sanitizers should be provided at point of entries and strategic points within the Church premises.
Church auditorium should be clearly marked such that people sit and maintain two metres distance from each other. Every church should make use of medical personnel to assist.
“We appeal to all our churches to observe all the COVID-19 protocols. We should be praying for the end of the pandemic in all our worships and very soon, it will become history in Jesus Name.”
