Petrol Tankers Clash In Kwara State

Six petrol tankers and a car involving in multiple accidents at Oloru-Kanbi in Moro Local Government Area of Kwara State.

Reports from newsmen says that the accident occurred when the tankers heading to the NNPC depot at Oke-oyi in Ilorin had a head on collision with three others returning from the depot.

Confirming the incident, the Director of Kwara State Fire Service, Alhaji Abdulwaheed Iwanda Yakubu, said 12 persons died in the accident and most of the dead persons were tanker drivers.

In his statement, other persons were on danger list and currently receiving treatment at the intensive care unit of the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital.

He also stated that the remains of the bodies dead have been deposited in the morgue of he hospital.

But the sector commander of the Road Safety Commission (FRSC), in Kwara State, Mr. Jonathan Owoade has said that only 8 persons died in the multiple accident.

He attributed the cause of the accident to wrongful overtaking and non adherence to traffic rules by drivers.
