Senate on Monday, March 30th, announced its decision by all the Senators to contribute 50 percentages of their salaries to fight coronavirus in Nigeria.
According to the Senate, this decision followed the outbreak of the deadly Coronavirus (COVID- 19) that is at the moment, ravaging the world.
The decision of the Upper Chamber was made known in a statement signed by the Chairman, Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Senator Godiya Akwashiki, All Progressives Congress, Nasarawa South.
This monthly contribution from the Upper Legislative Chamber will be sustained until Nigeria is declared safe from the pandemic.
The Senate commends the efforts of President Muhammadu Buhari and the administration towards the goal of securing its nation against the plague.
The Senate is willing and ready to do whatever is required of the Legislature for the effectiveness of all the measures in place currently or that may be required in the future to win the fight against this menace.
It also acknowledges the patriotic response of public-spirited individuals and organizations that have contributed in one way or the other in support of this fight against COVID-19.
The Senate further appeals to the citizens to comply with the directives on social distancing and observance of basic rules of hygiene as explained by public health officials as the most effective way to protect everyone, families and country against COVID-19.
