Jackson Mphikwa Mthembu was a Minister in the Presidency of South Africa’s Government and a parliamentarian for the African National Congress (ANC). Early Thursday morning, the South African Presidency announced that the minister died of Covid-19 related complications.
The 62 year old Minister had tested positive to the corona virus on 11th January, 2021. He was admitted to a hospital after his complaints of stomach ache and he gave up the ghost on the 21st day of January.
According to the Presidency, “Minister Mthembu was an exemplary leader, an activist and life-long champion of freedom and democracy. He was a much loved and greatly respected colleague and comrade, whose passing leaves our nation at a loss,”.
The ANC Deputy Secretary, General Jessie Duarte in a quick brief stated, “Comrade Jackson died with his boots on”.
