An army spokesman, Ado Isa has confirmed that a colonel, captain and some other soldiers have been killed in Borno in a clash with Boko Haram terrorists.
In a statement, he said “a Colonel and a Captain, as well as 3 soldiers on transit from Maiduguri to Damaturu, run into an ambush staged by the routed/fleeing terrorists from the Jakana axis which led to their unfortunate death,”.
He further confirmed that the troops of 212 Battalion at Forward Operating Base (FOB), Jakana, neutralised an unconfirmed number of Boko Haram, ISWAP terrorist who attempted to infiltrate the army base in need of logistics.
He said the terrorists launched an assault at the army base at 18;45 hours on Thursday July 18th 2019 in an attempt to infiltrate the base but the attack was foiled with gun fire from the army. He said scores of personnel and equipment were lost in the attack although he did not confirm the number of terrorists who died in the attack.
The spokesman also listed some items recovered from the terrorists including 1 Anti Aircraft Gun, 2 Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG) Tubes, 2 AK 47 Rifles, 15 Machine Gun rounds and 12 AK 47 NATO rounds.
Tukur Yusuf Buratai the Chief of Army Staff commiserated wit the families of the fallen soldiers. He further promised the army will remain steadfast in their battle against insecurity.
