In the last few hours of President Donald Trump in office, he pardoned a number of people including his former aide Steve Bannon, American rappers; Dwayne Michael Carter Jr (Lil Wayne) and Bill Kahan Kapri (Kodak Black)
According to the president’s administration, “President Donald J. Trump granted pardons to 73 individuals and commuted the sentences of an additional 70 individuals”.
The former aide to the president had been charged with defrauding people over funds raised to build the Mexico border wall that was a flagship of Trump’s policy. However, the pardon by Trump would effectively wipe away charges against Bannon, if he was convicted.
Lil Wayne, the American rapper had been charged for illegally possessing a loaded weapon on a private jet while travelling to Miami in December 2020, which he pleaded guilty to.
Likewise, Kodak Black who is already in a federal prison after pleading guilty to a firearms possession charge after being detained at the Canadian-American border in March 2020 also benefitted from the pardons of the president.
As of January 20th, 2021, the number of pardons issued by President Trump is over a hundred and forty.
