According to reports, Jihadists have attacked a base where US soldiers train commandos in Somalia.
The locals reported heavy gun fire in the at Baledogle airport in the southern Lower Shabelle region.
The base, about 60 miles west of the capital Mogadishu, houses US special forces, Somali special forces and Ugandan peacekeepers.
The BBC has reported that al-Shabab militant group has claimed responsibility to the attack which resulted in several casualties.
In the statement, al-shabab forces said “After breaching the perimeters of the heavily fortified base, the mujahideen [holy warriors] stormed the military complex, engaging the crusaders in an intense firefight.”
They used a car bomb to blast through the gates of the base before sending in shooters, as at press time military officials say the Jihadists had been pushed back.
